The Story of Aunt Mary

The Story of Aunt Mary was a quintessential example of the "soap opera" genre, named so because this type of program was invariably sponsored by soap manufacturing companies. The tradition continues even today on daytime television with unresolved problems throughout many episodes that keep listeners and viewers hooked on finding out what will happen next.

The show aired in 15-minute episodes on NBC West Coast, but was heard farther east in Dallas, Texas and other American Midwest cities and towns. It ran from around 1943 to 1951.
